I said 2 months ago, i’d post every week, and then I dropped the ball, i missed a post…

Anyway - this week, I wanna chat about the state of the economy and job market

JOBS

Even job boards go out of business

And this one has been in the mix for 30 YEARS!!!

It’s not a good look when job boards that have been around for 3 decades go bust, but that’s the state of the world right now

CAREER ADVICE

Here’s why most people join companies

No one likes to hear this, but people join companies because

1. Money

2. Benefits

3. Distress

4. Opportunity

Rarely is it, the culture, the team, the people, the industry, the etc etc.

I know it, you know it, employers know it - but we still keep quiet haha

But there is nothing wrong with that

You need to look after yourself - get paid, get benefits and enjoy your work

Once you get that covered, you can start looking for better opportunities, its like the maslow heirarchy of needs, but for corporate 😄 

And the state of this job market is absolutely shocking - people are hiring, then stop and go cold turkey, people are firing, then start firing again.

INTERVIEW ADVICE

You gotta be more animated

During interviews, in person, we have so much that we communicate with

• Tone

• Pitch

• Hands

• Body Movement

• Facial Expression

The physical proximity helps too!

But online, in a 2D world - you lose a whole dimension, and it’s a very important one

You have to make up for that lost dimension

Like a blind person, that can hear really well - you gotta compensate

but how?

1. Animated gestures - Hands and Face

2. Positivity and Energy - People want to feel some excitement when talking to you

3. Tone and Pitch - Speak louder, speak clearer, speak with more confidence

We lose so much in this online world and it’s getting harder to be online - dont make it any harder than it needs to be

My excuses

So why did I miss last weeks post?

Well, it was my brother’s wedding and I had to travel to Macedonia to attend

7 hours of travels, Portugal to Germany, Germany to Macedonia - absolute ballache, and i had to wake up at 4am to catch the first flight

It was very exhausting, but the next day was the wedding and I had a blast!

Even saw my dad pick up the mic and start singing - I would have NEVER thought that was possible haha

Anyway - we back in action
