Happy Friday Techies
I can’t be the only person that has spent this whole month thinking we are in January
Literally setting up client calls and saying: “yeah, can you do 27 Jan?” And they say “no!” the shock and horror of clients saying no - its worse than public rejection
But alas, here we are on the ass end of Feb
In this week’s issue
Hodl gang members
Straight up rejection
Timeless interview advice
We are in America! (Again)
Get stuck in boys and girls!

JOBS
Where my HODL Gang at?

Ahhh yes, I have made and lost millions of Rands in Crypto
I’ve interviewed some of you, and there has been interest in Web3 and Blockchain, an industry I like to gamble and lose money in, but not really do business in otherwise.
That said, if you want to get in on the action - this job board is gold
Be mindful, some recruitment companies like Lemon.io post jobs in here, so you might not be applying to Web3 companies, but actually to recruitment companies, that then sell you off somewhere.
Still, really cool job board that aggregates most Web3 jobs into one place

CAREER ADVICE
Non-Needy Network

“YOU CAN’T” - Is what I desperately wanted to say to Nilesh - in all caps no less.
A lot of you suck at networking - yes, I know that hurt - Like Shrek, I cut you deep, I cut you real deep.
Another movie reference
Like Fight club, there are only two rules in networking
Rule numero uno - be useful
Rule numero two - never forget rule numero uno
What does being useful look like?
Solve Real Problems
Offer Honest Feedback
Make Smart Introductions
Share Practical Knowledge
Help them before asking for help
To summarise - give value before you extract or take or expect value - it will put you further ahead and make you stand out!
Everyone just asks me to do stuff for them, no one asks me what they can do for me, and this is where you have a chance to shine
If you want me to go deep into this topic - let me know, and i’ll give specific examples in the next newsletter (next Friyay)

INTERVIEW ADVICE
Be Preeeeepaaaaared

Last movie reference, I promise
Honestly, haven’t even watched a new movie in ages, and know of no new movie coming out that i’d be excited to see, its been this way for years now.
Anyway
Be Prepared
Scar was on to something
You need to be prepared for interviews, I just had this happen to me on Monday with one of you lucky subscribers, let’s call him T.
I met T a few weeks back and liked his profile and experience - I interviewed him and he impressed me with his work experience and communication skills
But, T needs to watch The Lion King and take notes
Stable internet connection - i’ve had this issue with other subscribers i’ve interviewed, i’m looking at you Mitchell 😛
Test your internet 20 minutes before the calls, reset routers, have back up internet with your mobile phone, test that internet speed.
If you’re using Rain… RIP… Just get something legit
EQ questions - you know they are coming, have a good story for each
Why you got into tech
Tell us about yourself
Tell me about your biggest win
Tell me about a time you failed
This is a great site for questions and answers: TheMuse
Keep these answers short and make them memorable (interesting)
IQ questions - you should know your tech stack or features you’ve built like the back of your hand
Each feature you built, what was its objective, why did you build it
what difficulties did you face and overcome building it,
what did you learn building it,
how did you build it
Technical questions - honestly, even just watching a few YouTube videos on your tech stack or reading up about it on places like
I really love this site - https://roadmap.sh/
Just go to your stack and read through it
Else there are free online courses to watch
Write it down
It really helps to write these answers down physically on a notepad or digitally, so you can come back to them and memorise them etc
I used to write down my answers and spoke them out loud - btw, you can think of these answers as a database, and whenever a user (interview) queries that database, you just select the corresponding row
Good luck out there kids!
P.S spoiler alert, Scar does die at the end of the movie, so taking advice from a fictional cartoon character is best taken with a pinch of salt

LEGAL ADVICE
Murica baby! We in!

As you can see - my company is registered with a status of “Active/Good Standing”
It was super easy to register, but I had one or two advantages on my side
I had a friend in USA, and used his address for my company address - side note, he doesn’t know about that
I had a Social Security Number (SSN), I studied in the States, and this is one of the docs I got.
This doesn’t make registering easier, but after registration, there are one or two documents you need to send in, and if you have an SSN, you don’t need to send those docs
All in All - it cost me $104 or about 2000 ZAR
I watched this guys youtube videos to guide me through the setup
I will save on taxes, I will have access to global investment opportunities, I will brag that my company is in America (till someone asks how much we make, then i will pretend I never heard them)
If you guys wanna know how I did it, step by step, reply to this email letting me know and I’ll make a youtube video about it
My next step is to open the US bank account - going to open with Mercury Bank
